like wabc-tv and kabc-tv is there anyway i can get these channel im a real news junkieWhy in houston on my directv guide does it show new york city stations and l.a. news stations.?
Those are what are called Distant Network Services. DirecTV isn't able to provide local affiliates to every area (though they currently get something like 96% at this time) and so in these areas, provided the customer gets permission from their local affiliates, DirecTV can provide customers stations from LA or NY.

If you don't get your local stations through DirecTV (and they don't have them available at all in your area) you can call and have them submit a waiver request to your local stations. If the waivers are approved (and only 1 out of 5 ever are) the channels will come on automatically. The process can take up to 45 days to get an answer.

If you DO get locals through DirecTV (or didn't opt for them when they became available in your area), you will not be able to get these stations. It's against federal law for DirecTV to provide this programming to you without the permission of your local affiliates (who have the sole right to broadcast that station in your area). Why in houston on my directv guide does it show new york city stations and l.a. news stations.?
Those are the national networks. It used to be that if you got your locals with an antenna you couldn't get nationals on satellite, but now they have tons of places locals on the satellite. You can get Houston's, I'm sure. You should call %26amp; check.
