When I go out for a night of drinking I don鈥檛 hold back. However, this past weekend I became so intoxicated I was disoriented. Even worse, I had no perception where I was and almost got hit by a car. The bars I go to are pretty much in a 5 to 10 block range and I always walk. So my question is where can I buy or rent a Seeing Eye dog to bring out with me to the bars and most importantly guide me safely home? Can I use a Seeing Eye dog to guide me through busy city streets after a long night of drinking?
You may only use a Guide Dog if you are disabled.
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (the ADA), a disability is defined as when a person becomes ';...substantially limited'; and has a ';substantial limitation';.
Substantial limitation is defined, by the DOJ (US Department of Justice) through cases which set precidence. Other cases show that even people who have Emphasema may NOT use a Service Dog, because once the oxygen tank is applied, oxygen levels come up. Users of dogs must have a disability which lasts longer than 12 years, or potentially will.
You are NOT disabled, according to the ADA or the DOJ.
It is a Federal crime to use any type of Guide Dog without reason, and if caught you can pay a heavy fine or do time in a Federal prison.
How bad do you want to drink? If it's causing you such serious problems in your life, my suggestion is to seek help.
If you don't want to seek help, I suggest you take a taxi cab home...for safety purposes, or take a sober friend out with you. Sometimes that helps a lot.
I really do hope this answers your questions.

Service dogs are expensive and tedious to train and maintain. They don't hand them out to drunks. Don't you have any human friends that can be your chaperone while you drink?
Just don't get the dog liqoured up.
No, I am unaware of service dogs for the overly intoxicated. Perhaps a seeing eye hooker would be better. They dont make ';those kind'; of messes and can let themselves out.
Inconsiderate, heartless idiot!
SeeIng eye dogs or guild dogs are not cheap they cost a lot to train. Part of the blind person size is to keep the dog health and look after the dog. Guild montor the dog and where you take the dog and if your not looking after the dog they can take the dog from you. the waiting listed is long. And been drank at night from
drink achool is holding someone up who real need a dog.
the dog stay with the blind or they lend it to another blind friend or partly blind friend
Call the foundation for the blind
Oh yeah I'm sure they'll give you one.
Are blind? If not, then the answer would be no. I don't know how old your are but if you are consistently drinking enough liquer to become disoriented than you can say good bye to your liver well before you hit middle age and if you have somehow made it middle age than I had go see a doc real soon b/c something tells me your liver is as hard as a concrete brick.
hmmm... thats a good question...
sorry but i doubt youll get help with a dog. i think your best bet is to probably train your own dog that you buy
You do realize that the dog doesn't know where you live...
I think they rent them at your local AA
Ok what you have to do is seek help for alcoholism problems. Getting drunk till the point of becoming disoriented and almost hit by cars is not normal. A lot of things can happen to you when walking back home. ...
Not a bad idea, however, a cab would be cheaper.
';IF'; it was possible and you did...and if I saw you, I would instantly call the SPCA and police and have you arrested for animal cruelty!!!!!!!
Seeing eye-dogs and other service dogs spend a very long time in training--as do the people who receive them. The trainer spends long hours with the dog so it can be placed with the person who it will function better with.
They--the seeing eye foundation- do not place a dog with a non-disabled person.
Best, when you go drinking take a friend who knows where you live and one you can trust. Wondering the streets alone and vulnerable is not a good/safe thing to do.
Take care of yourself.
Get a grip control your drinking, idiot! People spend alot of time making sure Seeing dogs are highly trained and ready for the job. Do you really think there gunna sell you one to drag u round town?! Plus whata u gunna do with the dog when ur drinking cant just tie it up and leave it there till ur ready.
get a taxi if u wanna get home safe!
