The City of Chicago has an official volunteer tour guide program called Chicago Greeters. Visit their web site and complete the registration form and they'll hook you up with someone who has expertise in the areas of the city you'd like to visit. It's free!

go to the www.chicagogreeter.com They are volunteers that will show you the city and give you some free tickets to different museums.. I did this once, and had a great time...
btw, my cousin, is from Germany, he took a bunch of architectural tours while he was here.
